War as an option!

You have to be more than crazy to believe that a former minister of the butcher of the Balkans, today the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i?, could address the Serbian people on a beautiful spring day: "Here, after more than a quarter of a century, our glorious army regained its occupied territory. Kosovo and Metohija is and will remain Serbian". There is no doubt that the Republic of Kosovo and that of Serbia will look askance at each other for a long time, and perhaps even for decades. However, the discourse that a new war will start in Kosovo, and especially in the current reality, is more than false, not to say utopian. With the military intervention of NATO in March 1999, and with the deployment of KFOR forces in June of the same year, the Serbian dream for Kosovo has ended once and for all. This will remain an unchanging and indisputable truth.

The discourse about war as an option, from whoever and wherever it comes from, is populist discourse, and it is done for electoral purposes. In a society with a pro-Western mentality, this approach of politicians, where warmongering rhetoric is the strongest weapon to gain and maintain power, would be punished, but in the Balkan mentality, such phrases sound patriotic and aim for vigilance, and as such should to be taken for granted. When we say "Balkan mentality", in fact, this term is more identified with the Serbian people, since despite the bloodshed caused by the Belgrade regime in the last decade of the century that we left behind, the Serbian voter did not manage to come out of the shell of nationalism, kept in power the very people who caused massacres and crimes of genocidal proportions in almost the entire former Yugoslavia. However, the political clique in Belgrade is convinced, even more than I who am writing these lines, that the option to take Kosovo by war, which it calls a temporarily occupied territory, is more than demagoguery and completely impossible, but since this approach is feeding the moldy mind of the voter in Serbia and finding its scope, this clique is using it as bait to keep the power, thus plunging the Serbian citizen into the vortex of lies that it is already feeding very deeply in history. The approach followed by Serbian President Vu?i? towards Kosovo as a territory and the Serbian minority in our country should be viewed very carefully. Being convinced that Kosovo does not become Serbian, he also tries to prevent Kosovo from becoming "Albanian". So, the Serbian national minority in Kosovo is continuously blackmailed by the power in Belgrade to maintain this balance, even though the option of uniting the Albanians in a single state, no matter how much it is based on historical reality, is hardly feasible in the current circumstances. The unstoppable progress that is characterizing the Republic of Albania, especially in the last two decades, has made the discourse about the war in Kosovo to be more powerful than ever in the appearances before the opinion of President Vucic, and this discourse is done in order to the union of Albanians in a single state is prevented, even though, as we said, hardly feasible in the current circumstances, fascist politicians are always afraid of historical realities. However, I remind the policy-makers in Kosovo that they should talk as little as possible about the war, but this does not mean that we should not strengthen ourselves in terms of national security. On the contrary. Therefore, war is not an option and every time we talk about it, we consciously or unconsciously bring water to the millstone of the Serbian president who grinds only evil for the Republic of Kosovo and for the citizens of this Republic.
