HARTLAND, Conn. (WTNH) — The giants of the forest have been spotted in a handful of places around Connecticut so far this year — but has your town been one of them?

Thirteen moose sightings have been reported to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, according to an interactive map from the agency.

Most areas with a report have only recorded one. However, the top spot has already seen five.

Where have those moose been seen? Hartland has reported five. Windsor Locks has recorded four sightings. One moose sighting has been reported in Goshen, Barkhamsted, Bloomfield and Windsor each.

DEEP estimates that there are just over 100 moose in the state. Compared to other animals tracked by the agency, moose are the most rare.

For example, there have been 2,253 bear sightings in Connecticut this year, and 1,247 bobcat sightings.
