HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The Connecticut House overwhelmingly passed a bill Tuesday that would decrease the time it takes to get wheelchairs repaired in the state.

Senate Bill 308 now goes to Gov. Ned Lamont (D) after the state Senate passed it last week.

If signed, Connecticut would be the first state in the nation to regulate wheelchair repairs, reducing the existing long wait times.

The bill will require wheelchair providers to make repairs in 10 days. The Office of the Healthcare Advocate will establish and manage a complaint hotline. Wheelchair repair companies will also have to report average repair wait times to the Department of Social Services. An advisory council will monitor repair work and make recommendations on improvements.
