Miss Unionville Pageant: 2 p.m. Feb. 1 at Benton’s Crossroads Baptist Church, 109 E. Lawyers Road, Monroe. The pageant is an opportunity for girls ages 1 to high school seniors to represent Unionville and the Sam F. Keziah American Legion Post 535 in the pageant court. Contestants must live within a 75-mile radius of Unionville. Seniors eligible for $1,900 in scholarships.
Harlem Wizards at Sun Valley: 7 p.m. Feb. 1 at Sun Valley High School, 5211 Old Charlotte Highway, Indian Trail. The Harlem Wizards pro basketball team will play local community members, combining jaw-dropping basketball skills with side-splitting comedy at a family-friendly event. Teachers vs. the Harlem Wizards: 6:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at Monroe High School, 1 High School Drive, Monroe. See your favorite teachers and coaches play basketball against the Harlem Wizards. Fundraiser organized by Monroe-Union Breakfast Rotary Club to provide scholarships for local high school seniors. Council on Aging Senior Expo: 9 a.m. Feb. 5 at Union County Agricultural Center, 3230-D Presson Road, Monroe. Learn about senior resources available in Union County. There will be free health screenings, refreshments, door prizes and lots of information. Shuttles available from the parking lot.
Union County Playmakers gala: 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at The Grande Victorian, 1710 W. Franklin St., Monroe. Enjoy a night of frivolity and fun supporting the theatrical arts “From Broadway to the Silver Screen,” with cocktails, dinner, music, theater, and live and silent auctions. Garden symposium: 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Union County Agricultural and Event Center, 3230 Presson Road, Monroe. “Gardens Begin with a Dream: Explore Design Possibilities for our Region,” presented the N.C. Jam the Jeep fundraiser: 1:30-4 p.m. Feb. 8 at Waxhaw Tap House, 110 McDonald St., Monroe. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Union County Special Olympics. Donate $25 or more to write your name on a beach ball and throw it into the Jeep.
Night Out for Nebbi Sneaker Ball: 6-11 p.m. Feb. 8 at The Legacy of Gregory Downs, 5614 NC-205, Marshville. Hearts United will showcase its first sneaker and semiformal ball to symbolize children in Uganda who were sponsored last year. Individual tickets are $75 each. New and Expecting Parents Child Safety Class: 9 a.m. Feb. 12 at Union County Sheriff’s Office, 3370 Presson Road, Monroe. The class will cover infant CPR and car seat safety, and parents will have the opportunity to have car seats checked by certified professionals. Spots are limited. Monroe Police community meeting: 6-8 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Monroe Police Department, 450 W. Crowell St., Monroe. Meeting will promote partnerships with animal rescue organizations in the area. The community is welcome to attend.
Books & Bubbles — A Galentines Gala: Celebrate Galentine’s Day with romance authors Mazey Eddings and Alissa DeRogatis at The Bottle Factory 6:30-9 p.m. Feb. 13. Hosted by the Friends of Union County Library. For $35, adults may enjoy a glass of bubbly with chocolates, a book signing and the opportunity to meet best-selling authors. House of Pearls Auction: 7 p.m. Mar. 20 at Lee Park Baptist Church, 2491 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe. Join us and Auctioneer Brandon Desourdy on March 20th, 2025 for the 3rd Annual House of Pearls Benefit Auction.
