It’s Official: Samuel L. Jackson to Star in Tulsa King Spinoff NOLA King at Paramount+ — See First Photo

Paramount+ has officially crowned Samuel L. Jackson king.

The streamer on Thursday gave a series order to NOLA King, a Jackson-led spinoff of the streamer’s Sylvester Stallone-led series Tulsa King, TVLine has learned. Jackson will play Russell Lee Washington Jr., who hails from the crime underworld just like Stallone’s Tulsa King character Dwight “The General” Manfredi.

Samuel L. Jackson Tulsa King Spinoff

The existence of a potential Jackson-led spinoff was originally reported in June.

Per the official logline, Russell and Dwight met while both were doing serious time in federal prison. Russell “is sent to Tulsa by New York’s Renzetti crime family to take Dwight out once and for all. Inspired by what Dwight created in Tulsa and impressed with the possibilities of second chances, Washington returns to New Orleans, the home he abandoned 40 years ago, to rekindle his relationship with his family and friends and to take control of the city he left behind. In so doing, he incurs the wrath of his former employers in New York, and makes himself vulnerable to old NOLA foes, both criminal and cop.”

Jackson will debut as Russell in Tulsa King’s upcoming third season, tangling with Dwight in multiple episodes before heading to his own spinoff. Scroll down for the first photo of Jackson and Stallone in action.

NOLA King will be penned by Mayor of Kingstown alum Dave Erickson, who will also serve as showrunner, with the omnipresent Taylor Sheridan serving as an executive producer. David C. Glasser, Jackson and Stallone also will be EPs.

“Samuel L. Jackson brings unparalleled presence and global appeal, making him the perfect choice to maximize the momentum of one of our biggest hits and transform it into a hit franchise,”Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, said via statement. “Building on the breakout success of Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King, audiences will now experience the full force of Jackson’s dynamic, layered performance — supercharging one of Paramount+’s flagship series.”

Stallone added via statement: “Chris McCarthy came to me with a game-changing idea: to elevate my show beyond a mob boss series, creating a dynamic, family-driven franchise. I was immediately on board. Sam Jackson is the only choice to anchor this new adventure in NOLA, and David Glasser and 101 are the perfect partner to bring it to life.”

Debuting in November 2022, Tulsa King has become a breakout hit for Paramount+, setting records as the streamer’s most-watched series premiere globally and hitting the Nielsen streaming charts in its second season. Season 3 does not have a premiere date yet, but here’s everything we know so far about the new season.

Jackson is best known for his film work, including his Oscar-nominated role as hitman Jules in Pulp Fiction and playing S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with 2008’s Iron Man. His other film credits include Die Hard With a Vengeance, Unbreakable and the Star Wars prequel trilogy. On the small screen, he reprised his role of Nick Fury on Secret Invasion and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., along with a role alongside Kevin Hart, Don Cheadle and Taraji P. Henson in last year’s Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist for Peacock.
