A dentist recruited a friend to obtain a “date rape” drug to use on his wife so that he could unlock her phone and find out whether she was having an affair, a court heard.

Majid Mustafa, 48 is on trial at Doncaster Crown Court accused of intentionally encouraging an offence but has denied the charge.

Prosecutors say Mustafa, formerly of Kingswood, Hull, encouraged his friend Robert Lipinski to obtain GHB - a noxious substance - so it could be unlawfully administered to his wife Renata Antczak.

At the trial’s opening, the court heard Mustafa was “obsessed” about his suspicion that his spouse was having an affair, Hull Daily Mail reports.

John Thackray, prosecuting, said Mustafa recruited Lipinski, to get the “date rape” drug so he could get access to her mobile phone with her fingerprint.

He said Mustafa was “understandably upset” about his wife’s suspected affair - said to be with a man in Poland - and went to “great lengths” to try to find out “the truth”.

Alongside secretly recording Renata by placing a spy camera in their car and installing software on her computer, Mr Thackray said Mustafa also recorded Renata’s phone calls with the use of other software.

Mr Thackray told the jury: “What the defendant wanted was for his wife to admit to him that she was having a sexual relationship with another man, and perhaps to tell him the extent of the relationship.

“It may be, perhaps, he felt that only if he heard it straight from her would he really ever know the true and full position.”

Mr Thackray said Mustafa and Lipinski had talked about getting GHB to use on Renata, where Lipinski talked about getting a “rape pill” to get information, and said “it’s not about raping someone”.

Mr Lipinski was “also in an unhappy marriage” and was “thinking of doing the same to his wife”, the court heard.

In a transcript of one conversation between the men when they were talking about what happens when someone has taken GHB, Mr Lipinski said: “A man gives it to a woman, bangs and bonks her, she wakes up somewhere, in the bushes or on a bench.

“She remembers nothing, absolutely nothing.”

Mr Thackray said Mustafa found out about his wife’s affair through his secret recordings, and his alleged crime “came to the attention of the police when the defendant’s mobile phone was provided to the police".

Mr Thackray continued: “The defendant is a professional man who at the time lived in Hull with Renata and their younger daughter.

“Examination of the handset revealed the defendant had deployed an app that allowed him to monitor telephone calls and he’d also, ironically, recorded his own conversations with others”.

The case is “founded on the content of those conversations”, the prosecutor said.

Mr Thackray said the prosecution did not have to prove the drug was ever obtained.

He told the jury: “It’s enough the prosecution prove, so that you are sure, that the defendant intentionally encouraged Lipinski to commit the offence.”

The trial continues.
